Enthusiasm is the way

We act as though comfort and luxury were the chirf requirements of life, when all we need to make us real happy is something to be enthusiastic about.

Charles Kingsley.

Charles Kingsley was one othe most brilliant novelist of his time.   He was an Anglican clergyman, teacher and writer whose novels were widely read in the Vuctorian era.   His immensely popular novels were; Hypatta and Westward  Ho.  He was one of the first clergymen to accept wholeheartedly Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and n\Natural Selection.  His long populat children’s book The Water Babies was inspired by the thoughts on evolution.and he did much to encourage the interest in nature among the working people.

a poem on Love

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:11 pm by randallbutisingh

LOVE.

Love bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back.

                               Guilty of dust and sin.

But quick-eyed Love, observing me grew slack

                               From my first entrance in,

Drew nearer to me sweetly questioning,

                               If  I lacked any thing.

“A Guest”, I answered, “worthy  to be here”,

Love said,” You shall be he,”
“I the unkind, ungrateful? I cannot look on thee.”

Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,

“Who made the eyes but I?”

“T ruth Lord, but I have marred them; let my shame

                              Go where it doth deserve.”

“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”

My dear, then I will serve.”

“You must sit down”,  and taste my meat:”

So, I did sit and eat.

George Herbert (1593 1633]  English priest and poet.

start the day with love

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:07 am by randallbutisingh

The following is a Wake Up call of the Blue Star Interfaith Organization of Trinidad headed by

Guruji Sri Vasudeva.

Start the day with Love

Fill the day with Love

Spend the day with Love

End the day with Love

And that is the way to God.

God is Love.  Lord Jesus is Love personified.  He exhorted us to love one another, even our enemies.  Love casteth away fear which is a canker that consumes the body just as how fire consumes wood.  No one fears the thing he loves.  Living is loving and no one truly lives who does not truly love.    There would be no conflict in the world if we could love our fellow man who is made, like ourselves, in the image of our loving Father, God.  A life without Love is a life wasted.

Remember the words of St Paul in Corinthians 1:13.  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels and have  no love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift  of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

So there, you have it; a life without love is a life wasted.  You can have all the money in the world; it cannot fill an empty soul, a soul without Love.

a thought for today

WHAT IS YOUTH?

Youth is not a time of life;  it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is a freshness of the deep springs of life.

Samuel Ullman
The Power of Attitude

Comment:

It is said that youth is the time to learn; so it becomes quite clear then that if you desire to learn in old age, you have to carry your youth with you.  I recalll in Guyana where  i was trying to encourage two eighteen year old girls to join the class , an illiterate old man said; “Dem gyal da tu big fuh laan”.  I was amazed at his stupidity as I was  continuing learning Hindi at the age of sixty five.

all mankind is one

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:16 pm by randallbutisingh

While mother Earth is groaning from the abuse of her children with the diminishing environment, heedless misguided men are slaughtering their brothers and being slaughtered by them, many who call themselves Christians; for what?  to keep one section of humanity safe.  That just cannot be!  All mankind is one: Jew and Gentile, Saint and Sinner,Black and White.  Humanity is indivisible; destruction to any part of that mosaic will be a calamity  and all humanity will suffer.

Whwn will we learn that all men are brothers, children of that one Father God with the same spark of Divinity witinin them.  Your brother is your own dear self.  This  behooves  you to love him as yourself..  If you hurt him, you hurt your own dear self.

So, my dear brotjhrs, lay down your arms and as scripture foretoldl; beat your swords into ploughshares and your spears into pruning hooks and let there be peace, real peace, in all the land.

Buxton- Friendship Express

Buxton- Friendship Express

Hello Readers:

As you know I grew up and lived in the village of Buxton Friendship during most of the first fifty years of my life.  I therefore hold many fond memories of the people of Buxton-Friendship, and especially those who were my dearest friends, and who helped me to become the man I am today.

During this year Buxton-Friendship would be celebrating 170 years since its purchase by ex-slaves to set up the villages in 1840.  There is a rebuilding process going on in these villages and this anniversary is being used to promote the resurgence of Buxton-Friendship as the Premier villages they were in the past.  We wish them all success in this endevour.

I am attaching the latest newsletters – “The Buxton-Friendship Express”,  published  by the groups who are celebrating this most important milestone of the villages  that were established by their ancestors.

A wake up call to those who have been hoarding

Posted in Philosophy tagged at 4:07 pm by randallbutisingh

Poem by:  Grace Noll Crowell

“Because I have been given much

I too shall give

Because  of Thy great bounty Lord

Each day I live

I shall divide my gifts from Thee

With every brother that I see

W ho has the need of help from me.”

This little poem is certainly a wake up call to those who have been  hoardinng the bounty of Providence like a compost heap that is not scattered to fertilise the field, but remains in one place, a refuge for flies and other insect pests, while  the soil is overgrown with weeds that further impoverishes it.  The bounty of Providence is meant to be shared with those in need and not to be kept by the few with greed.  Giving with love never diminishes any one as the Cup of Love always overflows.  The late Mahatma Gandhi, a man of saintly character once said;  “He who has much of this world’s goods and sees his brother in want and does not help him is a thief.”

So, my dear brothers in humanity, you who are entrusted with the bounty of Providence, share with your less fortunate brothers ;  the Lord will bless you and you will be rewarded with happiness and peace of mind, precious gifts which all the gold in the world cannot buy.

Each day I live
