My New Year Message to You

Dear Friends, The year 2008 has come to a close. We have now ushered into a New Year – 2009. Time marches on; changes are taking place: the exuberance of youth changes into the senility and infirmity of age. There is one thing that never changes: the Spirit never changes, never grows old and never dies. We can remain young in spirit, and though the body changes and everything around us changes our true Self never changes.

We, as of custom, wait until the New Year to make resolutions for changes in our ways of living and in our life. We sometimes break those resolutions during the year. This diminishes us and makes us weaker and unreliable. We should never postpone our resolutions for a future time. That time may never come.

Remember, we are here in the body for a while. No matter if we reach 100 years that is like a moment in the context of Eternity. It behooves us therefore to savor every moment we live and not to waste precious time in idleness, gossiping and negativity. We know there will be an end, so we must live this moment as if it will be our last. Kalidas, the greatest of Indian poets puts it this way:

Look to this day

For it is life, the very life of life;

In its brief course lie all the verities

And realities of your existence:

The bliss of growth,

The glory of action,

The splendour of achievement.

For yesterday is but a dream

And tomorrow, only a vision;

But today, well lived, makes every yesterday

A dream of happiness

And every tomorrow, a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore to this day.

With these thoughts I wish you a New Year of Spiritual Abundance. May you walk in the light and help to lighten your fellow man.

Brother Randall.

    Your last two lines, second verse, reminds me of another of India’s great poets.

    “The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough”

    Rabindranath Tagore’s FIREFLIES.

    Thank you for your inspiring message Sir. May good health and words of wisdom be yours for 2009 and forever.

    Thank you Pat for your appropriate comments. They have come from one who is a great thinker, well read and vastly experienced. That thought by Tagore is
    one for contemplation. This world would have been a better place if we had learnt from our insect friends. I truly appreciate. ..
