True Democracy, according to Abraham Lincoln is Government by the people, of the people, for the people.  When leaders are selected they must rise from the plebeian and tested in the crucible of adversity.  Lincoln was that type.  He had to travel 12 miles every day on foot to school.  He practiced to write at home on a shovel with a piece of charcoal and he split rails to make a living.  To give leadership to one who is born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never knows what hunger is, will never do as a leader in a Democracy.  He will not have the common touch and cannot appreciate the suffering of the poor.
