Absolute Honesty is difficult in human relationships. One who does not steal tangible things from a neighbour, may steal in other ways. One may not reward one’s workmen justly, or one may sell a product at too high a price, or take exorbitant interest. A worker may dawdle or work well only when the hirer is watching, or he may do a poor job for the price he is paid. Then there is the ruler who wallows in abundance while his subject is starving. There are so many ways in which one can steal which are either condoned or applauded by society. The late Mahatma Gandhi said that he who has this world’s goods and sees his neighbour in want and does not help him is a thief.
