Today is Dr. Martin Luther King’s Birthday in the USA.

Dr. King was an advocate of non violence, the weapon used by Mahatma Gandhi in his fight for the freedom of India. By his struggle, he was able to win for himself and his people, respect, dignity, and equal opportunity. Here are some quotes from his speeches:

When scientific power outruns moral power, you end up with guided missiles and misguided men.

Nothing pains some people more than having to think.

If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

We must combine the toughness of the serpent with the softness of the dove; a tough mind and a tender heart.

Whatever affects one, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the way the world is made. No individual nation can stand out boasting of being independent.

All life is interrelated. We are all caught up in an inescapable network of spirituality, tied to a single garment of destiny.

God is not merely interested in the freedom of black men, brown men and yellow men, God is interested in the freedom of the whole human race.
