Humility

Do you wish to rise?   Begin by descending.  You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds?  Lay first the foundation of humility.

- St Augustine (352 – 430)

Comment:

No one can possess any virtue unless he is humble.  According to St Cure of Ars,  “Humility is to the virtues what the chain is to the rosary.  Remove the chain and all the beads escape.  Take away humility and all the virtues disappear”.   So, anything that is good and enduring or great, in the true sense, can only be built on the foundation of HUMILITY, in the same way as a tower can only be built to endure when the foundation is dug deep.  When you are humble, you can fall no further, you can only rise.  Mahatma Gandhi was one example of true humility; so also were St. Francis of Assisi and Mother Theresa. You can name others.
