THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

ONE DAY AT A TIME

August 6, 2008 Kaieteur News Guyana in Features / Columnists, Peeping Tom

Guyana has serious problems. I am asking all Guyanese to understand what is happening in their country. I am asking them not to be diverted by those who want them to feel that it is the free press in Guyana that is the enemy.
The free press is not the enemy. The free press is exposing the wrongs that are taking place and this is frightening the daylights out of those who do not wish their cards to be exposed.

All Guyana must understand what is taking place in our country, how public property is being divested under questionable circumstances.
On top of all of that, public funds are being used to fatten the purses of the very persons who are benefiting from these divestments.

To add more insult to injury, the public is being lied to and taxpayers’ monies are being used to buttress certain vested interests. In times like these, Guyana needs divine inspiration. In times like these, when corruption has become so entrenched and rampant, the nation needs to turn to God for assistance.

We need to bring God back into our lives because only Divine intervention can save this country.
I believe in my heart that much of what is happening in Guyana is because Guyanese have allowed God to go out of their lives. I recall the days when every morning, we used to wake up to Matthew Allen playing, “I surrender all” on public radio.
This was soon followed by a song that I believe we need to hear now in Guyana, “One Day at a Time Sweet Jesus.”
We need to wake each morning to these songs again. We need to sing these songs again. We need to surrender to God and to take one day at a time.
This morning, I got into the bathroom and began to sing to the top of my voice, One Day at a Time. I invite all of you as you read this to raise your voice in singing this song since we need it at this time. As you sing I ask you to pay attention to the words of this beautiful song:

I’m only human, I’m just a human.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

Chorus:
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

Do you remember when you walked among men?
Well Jesus you know if you’re looking below
It’s worse now, than then.
Cheating and stealing, violence and crime
So for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

Chorus:
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

Let us take one day at a time. Let us ask the Lord to show us the way to salvation. Let us ask him to bring peace to Guyana.
Let us ask him to pray for our leaders. Let us ask him to take care of our country. Let us ask him to raise leaders of integrity and character. Let us ask him for these and many more things.
With God all things are possible. With each day there are people who are trying to show how with them all things are possible.
We must sing for them that song that brings hope.

One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.
