THOUGHT FOR GOOD FRIDAY

Posted by randallbutisingh on March 21, 2008

GOOD FRIDAY

Why Good Friday. The man Jesus the Messiah, the Christ, that aspect of Him which the disciples could not see, the Father in Him, but which they understood when the Comforter came. Then they realised they were willing to die for His cause for they were not seeing now as through a glass darkly but were seeing clearly, and were already in eternity. But why, when Jesus died such a horrible, humiliating painful death, the darkest day in human experience, is the day called Good Friday? It is because Christians believe that that was the purpose for which He came, to lay down His life as the price for the redemption of their sins.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

AWARENESS

Seeing potential in the richness of daily life can only be achieved if we are intently aware and pay attention to details in people, places and things. Looking at things every day like it is the first time reveals facts that may escape you, if like most people you just exist “zombie like” throughout life.

A new point of view can create an innovation from seemingly mundane items. But we are untrained in seeing potential in the items of everyday life… just as we are sometimes blind to the hidden potential in the people around us who we profess to love.

Going back into your past and visiting that old house in the village you grew up in brings you closer to understanding this subject of awareness. Do the houses and rooms not look smaller? Do the streets not look narrower? Is that tall building not looking tall at all? Well the village may not have changed much but you have grown and your perspective has changed.

Remember that the trivial and mundane, properly configured, is what discovery or innovation is made of. Being aware is therefore a prerequisite for developing your creativity and success in life.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

The Kingdom of God is within you

No matter how the storm rages outside. we can find Refuge within where nothing can touch us, and find Peace and Serenity, It is when, in times of crises, we seek help outside that we have to confront fear and disappointment. See how the high winds ruffle the waves and dash them on the rocky shore, but beneath the sea is calm.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

AS A MAN THINKETH, SO IS HE … Proverbs 23:7.
Taken from Flashes of Light
by Randall Butisingh.

The mind is the reins that control the senses like the charioteer who holds the reins that control the horses. If the horses get out of control, the chariot and the life the charioteer are endangered.

Thought emanates from the conscious mind of the individual. It is crucial for the development of his personality and for spiritual progress. Indeed, “as a man thinketh, so is he” Proverbs 23:7. Lofty thinking inclines a man towards happiness and tranquility, while vile thinking mars his disposition and degrades him. He can never be happy, nor can he grow spiritually.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Posted by randallbutisingh on March 17, 2008

This THOUGHT is from one of the Six Schools
of Hindu Philosophy
gleaned from my interest
in Comparative Religions.

The OCEAN is one
The WAVES in the OCEAN are many
The WAVES are the OCEAN
The MANY are ONE.

MANKIND is one
INDIVIDUALS that make up MANKIND are many
INDIVIDUALS are MANKIND
The MANY are ONE.

SUPERSOUL is one
INDIVIDUAL SOULS are SPARKS of the SUPERSOUL
INDIVIDUAL SOULS are identical with SUPERSOUL
The MANY ARE ONE.

The numerous islands of the sea, each with its own differences
seem separate bodies, but none really is.  Remove the water

which gives the illusion, and there remains only ONE land.

THE LAST LECTURE by Randy Pausch

This is a really interesting video of University Professor Randy Pausch giving his last lecture to his students as re-enacted on the Oprah Winfrey Show recently.

Here is a man who is dying, giving a positive lesson to those around him as to the value of life and HOW TO LIVE.   Listen and you will be affected… I am sure!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

CIVILIZATION – Good and evil

Our modern civilization has the capacity for both good and evil. The globalization processes are moving us relentlessly towards a world that is centrally controlled and manipulated. We know the good that some discoveries have brought to mankind. However, we also know the evil that pollution, nuclear bombs and modern warfare have done and are doing today.

Many wonder whether we should not live simpler lives and be less materialistic. However the brain washing that promotes materialism is overpowering. Most people have bought into the idea that “success” means collecting money and material wealth. Satan promised Jesus the whole world. Today Satan promises all mankind the whole world! Man without a soul is like a stone … and to dust all mankind must return anyway. The focus on material wealth, and the suppression of spiritual growth is therefore hastening the death of the soul of “modern man”.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

WASTE NOT WANT NOT
Time to heed the writing on the wall.

When I was a child in school, I learnt this poem which made a great impression on my mind. Here it is;

I must not throw upon the floor
The crust I cannot it,
For many a hungry little one
Would think it quite a treat

‘Tis willful waste brings woeful want
That I may live to say:
O how I wish I had the bread
Which once I threw away.

Americans waste so much food, about 15%, it is said, enough to feed the whole of Canada or which can also help to feed her own millions of starving POOR, many of whom work at starvation wages or are unemployed. As a boy I never threw away food. I would, like Jack Sprat of Nursery Rhymes, lick the platter clean. But what do I see in this country. Go to a dinner party and you will see the wanton waste of food. Social etiquette requires that a small portion (the manners piece) be left on the plate, but many just eat the tasty tid bits and leave the pile. They also do this in restaurants. But not only food is wasted; good clothes, furniture, paper, toys, things that go out of fashion which will be treated as treasures in developing countries, are discarded.

With the price of gasoline  sky high, the destruction of insects which pollinate most of our crops by pollution of air and land with harmful chemicals, corn being used as an alternative for manufacturing fuel, the cost of foods will rise also putting more strain on most of the population.

Let these signs be a wakeup call to all Americans to begin to change their way of living. As the environment diminishes so will the earth also lose its capacity to feed its burgeoning population. Also, there may be foods which you will be afraid to eat because of pollution, especially sea foods and genetically engineered ones.

And you my brothers who have amassed huge piles of wealth that are sitting there like heaps of compost - my apology to those who do not fall in that category -will, if scattered, fertilise the fields and will bless many. To lavish money on luxuries which could be put to better use must also be considered waste. Many of your fellow men live, five or six persons in one room shacks, while here, two persons and a dog live in a mansion that can accommodate a hundred. Wake up everyone and stop wasting.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

 INFINITY

Infinity cannot be measured with the tools of Science.  Science can only explore the finite.  Wherever you are and wherever you may go, no matter what the distance apart, you are still at the centre.  Our universe has a galaxy, the milky way with its innumerable stars, the sun, a small star when compared with others; the earth, a small planet, with the moon its satellite, on which there is life; and other planets and their satellites.  With larger and larger telescopes, we are discovering stars so far away, that travelling at the speed of light, they will take a hundred years to reach the earth  So vast is our universe..  What we do not know is if there are other universes with suns and earths like ours.  All this boggles the mind; and yet man with all his brilliant intellect, who cannot create a leaf or flower, fails to perceive that his universe and he himself, cannot be the result of chance, but that of an incomprehensible, inscrutable , ineffable designer, one without beginning or ending. To have a glimpse of the infinite, one has to cross the bounds of reason and enter the realm of intuition.
